Finca Churupampa, based in the Cajamarca provinces, collaborates with 322 organic-certified producers by offering market access, technical assistance for producing high-quality coffee, and promoting a circular economy.
Led by Lenin and his brothers, their family farm has become a model for others seeking inspiration to grow coffee sustainably and care deeply for their land. Innovation through experimenting with processes and production know-hows is central at Churupampa. This, complemented by a strong culture of knowledge-sharing, constructively supports farmers to improve productivity.
This Side Up has been instrumental in supporting Churupampa’s mission, allowing them to pay higher prices, foster direct trade with young farmers such as Eswin, and build long-term commitments. As Lenin shared, while in previous years the price paid by This Side Up were not far from the local market, what truly sets This Side Up apart has been our consistent presence and support for producers during critical moments. This unwavering commitment has earned the producers’ trust and a deep appreciation, motivating them to continue delivering their coffee to This Side Up. .
The higher prices and stable income from our partnership have had a ripple effect at the household level. Over time, Lenin and Eber have witnessed farmers viewing their farms as thriving businesses, prioritizing sustainable practices and high-quality production. Families now enjoy improved quality of life, better access to education, and greater happiness across the community, all made possible through direct trade.

IMPROVING LIVELIHOODS THROUGH ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES
FOR SMALL HOLDER FARMERS IN CHIRINOS

Achievements so far: Churupampa partnered with a university and young agronomists to create a forward-thinking project to help older farmers earn a passive income. They offered the investment to grow approximately 50,000 high-quality timber trees which will be distributed to old farmers, ensuring they have sustainable source of income for their later years. In about 15 years, these trees will mature and can be harvested for valuable wood, providing a financial safety net to them. Another achievement specifically to 2024 was despite the high market prices farmers chose to sell their beans to This Side Up because they value long-term commitments and direct trade.
2025 update: Churupampa continues to invest in research aimed at improving coffee processing techniques and production know-how. By refining these methods, they empower farmers to increase both the quality and quantity of their yields, ultimately boosting their incomes. This commitment to innovation ensures that farmers stay competitive in global markets while fostering sustainable growth for the entire community.

Achievement so far :
In addition to coffee farming, Churupampa supports families in diversifying their income by rearing cattle, chickens, and fish, as well as cultivating vegetables. This approach not only enhances financial stability but also promotes food security within the community.Through dedicated research, Churupampa has successfully captured and reproduced mountain microorganisms that significantly enhance soil health. These microorganisms are made available to producers, enabling them to improve their land’s productivity naturally.
Furthermore, Churupampa implements comprehensive waste management practices, including the production of pelletized organic fertilizers. These fertilizers are enriched to boost soil fertility, enhance microbiota activity, and improve soil structure, aligning with their commitment to sustainable and regenerative farming practices.
2024-2025 Update : Starting in the third quarter of 2024, they will produce forest trees for agroforestry plots, contributing to diversified and sustainable farming. They will help farmers with renovating their plots to be more resilient to climate change.
